Do you suffer from hair dysmorphia?

Fashion wise, you may know someone with mild body dysmorphia. It’s when you lose a bunch of weight but still dress like when you were fat. Or when you go the other way and gain a load but haven’t realised that even though your dress is jersey is shouldn't stretch that much.

But did you know that it can happen to your hair?

I’d like to discuss the issue of hair dysmorphia because it happened to a fabulous friend of mine.

Whilst watching a series of Gossip Girl for the third time, this time without the sound so she could just focus on the fashion, she had an epiphany*. She was staring enviously at Serena’s hair when suddenly she realised that her own hair was almost as long as Serena’s!

You see, my friend used to have short hair and decided to grow it. At the beginning it was awkward so she pulled it back. Time went on and she forgot all about it. After this epiphany, she pulled out the hairband and discovered she had beautiful long hair!

Her hair had been stuck in a style rut. Worse still, she was completely ignoring her hair. It did not even register as part of her visual style.

Lucky she was watching Gossip Girl as Blake Lively has great hair and the stylists on the show really have fun with it. Now fully loaded with hair inspiration she headed straight out to the accessories department. As Rachel Zoe says
“The perfect accessory can make the difference between looking blah and totally to die for.”

My friend went hair accessory crazy and is having her own hair romance.

She has broken through her hair dysmorphia and with her new hair love (and a few accessories) she is complete from toe to tip.

Has this happened to you or someone you know? Are you in a hairstyle rut? Are you forgetting to use what you have to your advantage?

*I know you’re all thinking watching Gossip Girl without the sound so you can concentrate on the fashion & hair is an epiphany, right?

Note: Body dysmorphia is a serious mental illness. Talk to your doctor or health care professional if you think you are affected.
